Alberta Ferretti Spring Summer 2013

Blue and green. Blue and green. Blue and green and the occasional nude. I just love blue and green. These aquatic shades possess this calming and cooling effect; and are so pretty! Then there is lace, that’s barely there, and sparkly nets across the dresses. And the way the sequins create the illusion of fish scales, that glitter when the light hits them. Amazing. I bet, mermaids would happily trade their tails for legs in order to wear these dresses.

Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture

When it comes to stunning evening gowns and sparkles, there’s only one name to be mentioned: Elie Saab. No one does those better than him. This season I’m particularly drawn to this shade of apricot, it looks amazing with lovely flushed skin. So soft and dreamy (above left). Icy blue looks good with diamond sparkle, that’s for sure. But it’s the slim cut and neckline that impress me (above middle). Teal is a shade of blue that whispers of exotic places and the beads enhance this impression (above right).

Of course, neutrals can’t be missed. Usually, I dismiss them as boring but sometimes there are certain details that are lovely, nonetheless. A skirt that has a beautiful drape (below left), a top that has an interesting shape (below middle), or a bridal gown that’s simply stunning (below right).

Giambattista Valli Fall 2012 Couture

Giambattista Valli enchants me again. The bright colors of flowers and the rich greens of their leaves – that’s right up my valley! I adore deep and rich shades. Combined with lots of flowy fabric – what could I wish more for? Some of my favorites:

1) A radiant red dress, which is embellished with lots of lace flowers.

2) The skirt might be too much but the fit and shape of the jacket is impeccable and the print is beyond gorgeous.

3) Can a dress be more romantic? I’d say no.

4) Peplum is a big trend. Here’s a wonderfully executed one. Done right, the waist gets more definition and appears slimmer.

5) Flowy fabric and trails of sequins that catch the light.

6) My favorite dress. Such a gorgeous green, love the fall of the fabric. Love the cape, very regal!

Marchesa RTW Fall 2012

From far away you notice her. You notice the bold blue colorĀ  of her dress. As you come closer you make out more details: Various roses and leaves are embroided onto it. Never have you seen anyone being so bold with the color of the embroidery. It catches your eye with its beautiful shade unlike the other sort of embroidery that you have seen which prefers to shyly hide within the fabric’s color. And you cannot help it, you are intrigued by the high neck.

Next to her, there is another woman. You sweep your glance from her bare shoulders (skin so flawless that it’s glowing from within) down to the layered embroidery, that entwines around her body in fine tendrils. You think that you cannot be more impressed but how horribly wrong you are! For at the bottom you see the dress ending in pure white feathers! Those feathers, you think, those can only belong to an angel.

And to the right of her, there is a woman standing. Her dress is made of flaxen feathers that bloom across the body, the center of the blooms is made of tiny golden beads. You have never seen a dress like this before and you wonder is this really man-made? It seems to be the work of angels.

Alexis Mabille Haute Couture SS 2012

Who had guessed how fabulous a warm red lipstick looks with a blue painted face? Smurfette would have looked amazing with lipstick on!

I just adore these two dresses by Alexis Mabille. They are both blue but while the first one looks so dainty (the bare shoulders!) – just like a delicate tea cup, the long dress on the right is so regal and strong. Something a proud queen would wear. Stunning.

Giambattista Valli Haute Couture SS 2012

I love Haute Couture fashion week. Beautiful clothing everywhere, carefully crafted by hand. So elaborate. It’s fashion that’s only created to look amazing and doesn’t need any other justification. It’s not even supposed to be sold. It’s to be admired and to inspire. Giambattista Valli is one of my favorite Haute Couture collections this season. So much detailing on the pieces. They look so good. And I’m completely sold on the fuchsia dresses below. Bold but elegant. One can never go wrong with bold and elegant.
